The war against the Xianyun was one of the most important events in the Zhou dynasty. The Xi-anyun, who once dwelt in the west at Guazhou, split into a southern and a northern division and be-gan their eastward migration after they were conquered by the Zhou. Most of their migration route istraceable. The war between them and the Zhou occurred mainly in the late Western Zhou dynasty andextended into the early Eastern Zhou. Other developments related to this major historical event in-elude the ownership of Fenghao during the early years of the Eastern Zhou, the armed invasion to thesou0a in the Western Zhou, the sequence of the armed incursions to the south and the north duringthe reign of King Xuan, and the date of “Xiao Ya” in the Book of Songs.
