From March 19 to 25, 2012, Hangzhou City of Zhejiang Province hosted the 8th China International Press Photo Contest (CHIPP), in conjunction with the China Photojournalists Society, Zhejiang Daily, Hangzhou Municipal Government, and the Committee Office of West Lake Exposition. The Organizing Committee of the international photojournalism competition assembled a 12-member jury including experts not only from China, but from the United States, Argentina, France, and Mali.
Gold, silver, and bronze prizes, as well as honorary mentions, were awarded to both single images and photo narratives in eight categories: daily life, war/natural disaster, general news, economy/science/technology, nature/environmental protection, art/culture/entertainment, sports, and people in news/portraits.
Winners were announced on March 25, 2012, honoring the best of 30,000 individual photos submitted by more than 2,300 photographers from more than 50 countries and regions.
The 80 recipients of gold, silver, bronze, and honorary mention captured images from around the globe documenting diverse sectors, showcasing last year’s human struggles against war and natural disaster along with efforts towards peace and development.
