Though a small resort city of mehico, cancun was under a global spotlight as it hosted the 2010 united nations [UN] climate change conference from November 29 to Oecember11, more than 10000 negotiators, ehperts,NGO representatives, and journalists transformed the normally realhed vaction destination into a crowded and bustling international redezuous, journalists from China Pictorial were amongst vistors covering the global event taking place
The primary resort zone is located on a long isklnd at the southezist tip of Mexico´s Yucatan Peninsula. Viewd from above. it resembles a gigantic "GL" stretching out towarcls the Caribbean. Three decades ago. Cancun was just a small fishing village with 300 rcsidents. However, after more and more visitors became enchanted by its stunning coastal scenery and mysterious Mayan relies, it quickly grew into a world-renowned tourist resort. Now, more than 2 million tourists visit the city annually.
The word "Cancun" means "vessel at the end of the rainbow" in Mayan. which is a metaphor for happiness. Cancun sees frequent showers during its ratiny season which runs from July to October. Residents f´requently see rainbows after precipitation, which inspired the city´s name.
Blue Sea and white Sands
"No other sea in the world can rival the waters ofCancun," many satisfied visitors have declared.
Indeed, the sea off Cancun´s coast is spectacular. The island extends 21 kilometers although it´s only 0.4 kilo: meters wide, so it appears like a snake slithering through the crystal clear seawater. Its white beaches extend 20 kilometers, dotted with Mayan-style pavilions and cottages roofed with palm leaves, supported by black stone columns. adding a tranquil, romantic atmosphere. On sunny days, the seawater shines like a glistening sapphire, and the surface color can shift from sky blue to navy with varying water depths. underwater reefs, and sunshine. Luckier visitors have reported dolphins jumping in the sea.
